Manual Handling

Course Aims

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

• State the principals behind safe manual handling of loads
• Demonstrate how to lift, carry and lower all heavy loads within their personal capacity, using aids or assistance as necessary
• State the parts of the body which are at risk of injury when lifting incorrectly and the possible injuries that may occur as a result
• List the techniques that can be applied to the manual handling of loads in order to achieve economy of effort
• Suggest ways in which tasks involving the lifting and moving of heavy loads can be achieved safely and with minimum effort
• Explain briefly the risk assessment process in relation to manual handling
